Vegetarians have tiny brains…
September 14, 2008
In a most fascinating study, it confirmed what I suspected all along: vegetarians and vegans lack brainpower. Now the science backs it up. “Scientists have discovered that going veggie could be bad for your brain-with those on a meat-free diet six times more likely to suffer brain shrinkage. “
Here’s the article: Eating veggies shrinks the brain.

Just some thoughts off my mind about the study. (we Indians are the largest nation of vegetarians)
Thats because the diet of people there is not the same as ours and their traditional food depends heavily on meat. Thus people opting for vegetarianism don’t actually have many choices and end up getting malnourished.
India however is a different case, and the veggies we have in our cuisine are unheard of in the entire western context. If I ask you what daal is you wouldn’t even come up with a decent substitute.
Meat, on the other hand, is not as nutritious in India as in the west due to our cooking techniques. Its a lot more oily and fried and unhealthy in India than the westerners prefer.
Thus, vegetarians or not, one should know what his/her diet’s made up of.

Very interesting response, and, in all seriousness, I agree that people should be conscientious of what they are eating in their diets. Certainly, even for vegetarians, there are many ways to supplement their diet to get proper nutrients, and many meat-eaters have imbalance as well. I’ve recently read some articles about diet, and the bottom line is that variety is important for a broad range of nutrients.
My blog is a slightly barbed against veg-heads because of past experiences (namely on my AmeriCorps team) with fascist-style vegetarians condemning my omnivorous diet as being barbarian and cruel.
